Ukwanda Educare Container Toilet Block

Dignity and hygiene for our vulnerable children!

I was so moved and distressed on my recent visit to a little school called Ukwanda Educare Centre, in the huge shantytown of Khayelitsha, on the windswept, sandy Cape Flats. This little school has more than one hundred little children in its care, some as old as seven, but some as little as six months – but no access to proper toilets.

Their only facilities are three open potties outside in the playground, so these little ones have absolutely no privacy. They don’t even have a place to wash their hands.

Imagine the lack of dignity and the risk of illness for these little ones! Diarrhoea is the greatest killer of children under five in southern Africa. Without the basics of hygiene, the children of Ukwanda are at risk.

We urgently need your help to make a real difference to these children’s lives.
