Born Again Educare Centre, Classrooms/Kitchen/Toilets Handover, 22 March 2018
On a warm, windy autumn day in Cape Town, the children of Born Again Educare Centre were the recipients of three containers that had been creatively converted to form two classrooms, a kitchen and toilets. Two of the containers were kindly donated by Grandbuild.
The centre is situated in Khayelitsha, and many of the parents and caregivers of the children who attend struggle to make ends meet in a community with high rates of unemployment and poverty. But in spite of the challenges, the school’s principal, Nomonde Dingani was determined to see that ‘her’ children have the best possible start. She approached Breadline Africa for help, and with the support of the organisation’s generous donors, her dream for the children has come true.
The facility is supported by two organisations working in early childhood development – The Unlimited Child and Sikhula Sonke. Their relationship with Born Again Educare Centre will ensure that the children receive a good educational foundation – and the nutritional support that will help them to learn and grow.
During the opening ceremony, Rev. Vuyani Matshini read Proverbs 24, verse three to four: “A house built on wisdom becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge, its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.” He added that out of the classrooms of this pre-school will come doctors, lawyers, teachers, presidents, nurses, principals and citizens who will contribute positively to society and their communities.
The team at Breadline Africa wished Born Again Educare Centre everything of the best for the future, and agreed that the ongoing support from Sikhula Sonke will help the centre to rise to greater heights. In particular, Breadline Africa thanked Grandbuild for donating two of the six metre containers.
It is also located close to Little Acorns Educare, another centre that was recently supported by Breadline Africa, and it was clear that the strong ties between the facilities will provide opportunities for them to support one another and lean on each other during difficult times – and celebrate their achievements together!
