A classroom is urgently needed to provide more space and to accommodate the growing demand at Green Curtains Pre-School

Location: Ocean View, Western Cape

About: Green Curtains Pre-School was established in 1989 and with the support of the Cape of Good Hope Rotary Club,  opened its doors to the children of the Ocean View community in 1994. After more than 30 years of serving the community, the pre-school currently has 144 children enrolled.

Challenge: Green Curtains Pre-School has a no fee policy and operates under the umbrella of the Valley Development Project. They work closely with social workers to ensure that even the most vulnerable children can attend a pre-school in the area. Unfortunately, the majority of the children’s parents are unemployed and are dependent on government grants. This presents a challenge as the school tries to accommodate more children with little funding available to add more infrastructure.

The need: A classroom is urgently needed to provide more space and to accommodate the growing demand. There is a constant flow of referrals to place children at risk at this pre-school. A 36m² prefab classroom will allow them to meet the spatial demands as they continue to grow.

Beneficiaries: 144 children between the ages of three and six years
