In order to ensure that the children are safe and healthy, this educare centre needs a Nu-tech prefabricated structure, which will be divided into a kitchen and toilet cubicles
Location: Khayelitsha, Western Cape
About: Pretty Rose has been caring for the young children in her community since 2014. Today, Kamvalabo Educare provides both early learning for 30 children under the age of six, as well as aftercare facilities for older children whose parents work full day.
Challenge: Currently, the centre consists of several shacks that are unstable and leak when it rains. There are no flushing toilets and the children have to use one of five plastic portable toilets that are housed under an open roof structure. This is not safe or hygienic. And what is even worse, these rundown buildings pose a fire hazard, making it impossible for Kamvalabo Educare to register with the Department of Social Development to receive a daily subsidy to assist with day-to-day expenses.
The need: In order to ensure that the children are safe and healthy, Breadline Africa proposes to place a large Nutec prefabricated structure, which will be sub-divided into a kitchen and toilet cubicles.
Beneficiaries: 30 children aged between one and five years
