Significant classroom space is being sacrificed for office space at this pre-school.

Location: Worcester, Western Cape

About: Nonkululeko Educare Centre is well run and supported by development organisation, GROW. The principal started the centre because she saw children being left in the streets when parents went out to look for work. She started with 4 children and the centre has grown to 60 children currently.

Challenge: Upon investigation of the existing facilities, it was established that significant classroom space was being sacrificed for administration and office space. With this in mind, the most effective solution would be a dedicated office to allow for the full utilisation of the classroom area. This was the most cost-effective solution since it maximises the classroom space, as well as providing a dedicated office, which allows for better alignment to the ECD regulations.

The need: 16m2 structure built using sand-bag technology from Nu-Tech will provide much-needed office space.

Beneficiaries: 60 children under the age of seven
