A new classroom will give this growing pre-school space for all the children to learn in a safe and clean space and not outdoors.

Location: Kloof, KwaZulu Natal

About: Ntombithini Gabayu, the principal of Zamokuhle Crèche, is very active and is well-respected in the community. Her school is popular, and the current brick building is too small to accommodate sufficient classrooms, as well as the kitchen, office and toilets. Her greatest wish is for all of the children to have access to appropriate learning materials, so she also assists a few home-based crèches in her community with ECD materials.

Challenge: The Grade R’s are split as they are a big group and there is simply not enough space to have them all together. Some of the children are taught outdoors and learning happens outside, in the elements. The grade Rs are in need of their own space so that all the children can be together in one learning group.

The need: A classroom, made up of two converted six-metre shipping containers.

Beneficiaries: 49 children from 10 months to 5 years
