Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal

Following the floods in KwaZulu-Natal, this pre-school is in desperate need of a new classroom, a kitchen and toilets.

About the project:

Petronella Mthiya started the school in 2018, to serve the community of Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal. At present, there are 50 children between the ages of 0 and 5 in attendance at Arise Light Kidscare.

The challenge:

With the devastating KwaZulu-Natal floods in April 2022, the school’s three freestanding flushing toilets were entirely washed away. As a result of the school’s inadequate infrastructure, it cannot obtain registration, despite having submitted an application.

The need:

Using a 6m container divided into a kitchen and toilet, the children will have access to hot meals prepared in a clean space and toilet facilities that will provide a safe and hygienic environment for the children. By adding a 30m² classroom, the school will have adequate space to accommodate children of different age groups in separate classes.
