About the project:

Fundi Rainbow Educare Centre was established in 2020 by a professional nurse who has a deep passion for young children and has experience in paediatric nursing. In January 2020, she gave up her free-standing home and launched the centre five children and a teacher. She rents a house next to her own in order to operate the centre, as it has grown so much.

The principal seeks to identify children in her community who have minor special needs and are vulnerable. All of the children learn English at the school, and because she is a professional nurse, her aim is to work with therapists and social workers, enabling her to offer inclusive learning.

The challenge:

This is a well-run centre, receiving educational support from Masikhula and nutritional support from Joint Aid Management. Her centre is in high demand in her community, which means that there is a long waiting list of children seeking enrolment – and there isn’t enough space to accommodate them.

The need:

The shack classroom, which houses 18 children aged four to five years, is situated at the back of the centre’s brick house. Her request is for this classroom to be replaced with a more secure and stable structure.
