About the project:

Botrivier is a small town; approximately 10,000 people call it home. It is situated in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. Khulani Day-Care Centre was established there in 2009, and operates from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The children, aged from six months to five years receive instruction in isiXhosa and English children. They receive support from Wines to Whales, in the form of toys, books, cleaning material and workshops with the children. The current centre is run from a shack and despite the poor infrastructure, centre is well run and they are very proud of the eight diplomas their ex-pupils received in 2022.

The challenge:

There are two shack structures, and one needs to be completely replaced, which is why they need a classroom. They also only have one toilet cubicle, which isn’t sufficient for the number of children attending school each day. There is also no safe, dedicated kitchen space

The need:

Khulani Day-Care Centre is in need of a new classroom, hygienic kitchen and toilet facilities.
