About the project:

Langa Moravian Crèche was established in 2000. It offers classes in both isiXhosa and English and caters to children aged between two and six. The centre was formerly known as Langa Nursery which was established in 1952 and operated until 1999. Principal, Nobuntu Sidumo, assumed the role in 2009, and was once a student at the school. This is a well-run early childhood development centre – they receive educational support from the Early Learning Resources Unit and are also supported by Rotary and HomeChoice, a local company.

The challenge:

Places at the centre are in high demand – their educational programme is recognised in their community as a good foundation. There is a long waiting list of children that Nobuntu would like to enroll but lacks the teaching space to do so.

The need:

The centre urgently requires another classroom; they don’t have enough space to increase their numbers and they currently have to turn new children away.
