Mtimkhulu Smart Kids was established in 2013 and operates from 7.30am to 4pm. The school offers instruction in English, isiXhosa and Afrikaans. The children all come from impoverished backgrounds and receiving a daily meal is critical to their wellbeing, and the school has ensured that they are able to provide this. The centre, currently located in a brick building that is in good condition, is well run, well organised and very clean, the principal and staff are passionate about what they do.
There is a dire shortage of early childhood development facilities in Proteadorp, Kleinmond and extending this little centre will be hugely beneficial to the local community. Additionally, there are only two toilets in the facility, which is completely inadequate – and this is a situation that will only worsen as more children enrol at the school.
