About the project:

Nosapho Educare Centre was established in 1989 and originally operated from the backyard of a home. The centre opened with just six children, whose parents were employed and needed a safe place for their children to go each day. Their goal is to work with the community to support the need for daily care and to provide a strong educational foundation.

In 2009, the centre moved to its current premises, consisting of brick classrooms. There are 11 staff members who offer the children a holistic intervention that includes numeracy, language, life skills and a safe space in which to learn and grow.

The challenge:

Over the years, the centre’s numbers have increased to 120 and there is great need for additional classroom space. Its reputation for providing a good educational programme and offering concessions to parents who are struggling financially is well known in the community. Subsequently, there is a waiting list of children from the community, whose parents hope to have them enrolled.

The need:

The centre urgently needs an additional classroom to accommodate more children.
