About the project:

In the late 19th Century, this small primary school was started by missionaries visiting the remote area situated in a rural part of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. The school received a container library from Breadline Africa in March 2022.

The challenge:

When we were setting up the library prior to the launch, we noticed the very poor kitchen facilities, with no running water, lack of proper ventilation (cooking on an open fire) and insufficient and unhygienic preparation surfaces.

A daily meal provided at the school is a vital part of the children’s development and a safe and hygienic kitchen is much needed.

The need:

The school meals are currently prepared in an unsuitable structure and to ensure that the children are safe and healthy, Breadline Africa proposes a 6m container kitchen allowing for the preparation of meals in a safe and hygienic space. Hungry children can’t learn and feeding children a nutritious meal helps them focus and grow.
