Thanks to the generosity of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), who provided the funding for the project, the Breadline Africa team joined Poppy Vosloo, the principal of Atlehang Pre-school in Rammulotsi, Viljoenskroon for a celebration on Friday, 27 May 2022, as the brand-new facility was officially opened. The children and their teachers danced and sang before Poppy shared her story with the guests.

Ms Vosloo established the pre-school in 2019 and provides services to 57 children in the area. The centre was operating out of an unsafe and leaking shack structure. It was so unsafe that on rainy or windy days, the children did not come to school at all and at the end of 2021, Poppy was told by many mothers in the community that they would not send their children to her crèche in the new year, because it was not safe.

But today she said, “I am so very grateful for what Breadline Africa, Ntataise and the IDC have done for our school. The beautiful classrooms, kitchen, toilets, and office space have made a big difference – our kids are going to be safe and dry now. Thank you so much.”

The teachers and children of Atlehang Pre-school received a 60m2 prefabricated classroom, 18m2 kitchen and toilet, 18m2 combined office and sick bay as well as a shade port, jungle gym and rainwater collection tank. Director of the resource and training partner, Ntataise, Puleng Motsoeneng explained that there is a great need for safe pre-school facilities in the area. These new facilities will help Poppy to enroll more children – offering them a safe and stimulating learning environment.

Johan Nel, Marketing Manager of Breadline Africa said: “It is so wonderful to hand over this beautiful full pre-school to the community of Rammulotsi. The children now have safe learning spaces that they can be proud of at this very important starting point in their educational journeys.”
