On 27 May 2022, the children of a rural farming community in the Free State province, called Rammulotsi, received the best gift ever – brand new structures for their pre-school.

Emmanuel Crèche was established by principal, Puleng Mogale in 2018 and provides early learning services to 46 children. The shack structures that were in daily use were in poor repair and unsafe. The school desperately needed to create a safe learning environment for the children.

On this very special day, the Breadline Africa team joined partner non-profit organisation, Ntataise and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), who provided the funding for the project, to celebrate the launch of the brand-new, full pre-school with two classrooms, kitchen, sick bay, toilets, jungle gym and rainwater collection tanks. This generous donation from the IDC means that the crèche will be able to provide a safe learning environment and serve as a platform for further community investment in the education of the children in Rammulotsi.

Principal Puleng Mogale welcomed everyone and said, “I am very thankful for what Breadline Africa and the IDC did for our school and for our community. We didn’t think this was ever going to happen and, yet, here we are today.”

The director of Ntataise, Puleng Motsoeneng added her gratitude, saying: “We are shining today. This is the day we are moving from shacks to this beautiful building. We have come a long way and it is important to know that we will do whatever it takes to put a smile on the faces of these children. This is the result of that.” Ntataise provides training and an outreach programme to the staff at the pre-school.

The children participated in a formal programme that included songs and celebratory dance, while Ms Mogale and Ms Molefe cut the ribbon to officially open the pre-school.  Their gratitude and joy were clearly visible as they explored the new structure.
