What a pair of funky socks can do for a child’s future

There’s something joyful about putting on a pair of bold, bright socks that don’t quite match the rest of your outfit. It feels like a secret wink at the world, a small act of rebellion, a splash of colour in an otherwise serious day.

But what if those socks could do more than make people smile?

What if they could help a child learn to read, support a young cancer patient to keep learning during treatment, or bring comfort to a child walking into a police station after surviving abuse?

That’s exactly what PNA Funky Socks Day 2025 is all about.

Now in its fourth year, PNA’s Funky Socks Day campaign continues to turn a fun idea into something powerful, and this year, it’s supporting four remarkable non-profit organisations making a real difference in children’s lives.

This year, the goal is bigger than ever: R2.5 million by 12 September. The ask is simple. Buy a R10 Funky Socks Day sticker and stand with children who need education, care and comfort the most. If you want to take it up a notch, there’s also a limited-edition sock range to help you wear your heart on your feet.

But behind the bright colours and funny prints lies a story of hope, dignity and opportunity, one that touches children across South Africa and Namibia.

Who you are supporting

Here is how your small action, that R10 sticker, turns into something life-changing.

Breadline Africa: A pack of belonging

At Breadline Africa, we know that dignity starts in the classroom. That’s why part of the funds raised will go towards delivering 50 educational resource packs to children in under-resourced communities, many of whom have never had their own pencil case or workbook before.

It may seem like a small gift, but for a child who has never had their name on something that belongs just to them, it’s a confidence boost that lasts. It says: You matter. You belong here.

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation: Learning through the fight

For children battling cancer or serious blood disorders, school can become a distant memory. That’s why CHOC, in partnership with iSchoolAfrica, offers iPad-based learning programmes in treatment centres. These tools allow children to keep learning, stay stimulated and even find joy during the long road to recovery.

Your sticker helps bring normalcy and inspiration to brave young fighters who shouldn’t have to choose between treatment and education.

Rally to Read: Books that build futures

Rally to Read brings literacy and learning to children in remote rural areas, where access to quality education remains a challenge. With your help, they deliver books, train teachers and empower parents to support their children’s learning.

Your support helps unlock a lifelong love of reading and sets children on the path to a brighter future.

Matla a Bana: Comfort in a moment of fear

Matla a Bana works with police and hospitals to support children who have experienced abuse. One of the first steps in that process is a comfort pack, a small bag filled with essentials like toiletries, snacks and a soft toy. It’s not just a gift. It’s a moment of comfort in a terrifying time, a gesture that says: You are not alone.

With this year’s Funky Socks campaign, 500 comfort packs will be distributed to children in crisis.
