Nosapho Educare Centre celebrated a jackpot win with the arrival of a new 30m² classroom for their Grade Rs on 22 February 2024.

Founded in 1989 by Thobeka Vivienne Mkunqwana, Nosapho Educare Centre started with just six children in a shack at her home. In 2007, Thobeka was offered a site to build a new facility, but sadly passed away before it’s completion. Her daughter, Nozibele Vumazonke, transitioned from running a home-based hair salon to continuing her mother’s legacy. After obtaining an early childhood development qualification from Northlink College, Nozibele officially became the principal in January 2009. Today, the centre accommodates 110 children from birth to six years old.

Sun GrandWest generously donated the classroom and Mervyn Naidoo, the General Manager, expressed gratitude to Breadline Africa for their partnership and commended the ECD centre’s excellent management. He affirmed Sun GrandWest’s commitment to further support Nosapho Educare Centre by exploring options for additional classrooms and a playpark in the near future.

Marion Wagner, Breadline Africa CEO, thanked the Sun GrandWest team for their ongoing support in early childhood development, helping to ensure educational outcomes for so many young children. She also thanked Nozibele and her teachers for their passion and the evident difference they are making.

Vuyo Somi, the centre’s administrator, explained that there are regular requests from parents to enroll their children, but the centre has not been able to accommodate them due to limited classroom space. This has all changed with the donation of the classroom and he expressed his gratitude for the great gift the centre has received.

A highlight of the celebration was a spirited rendition of “I have the love, joy, peace, down in my heart” from the children. After the official ribbon cutting, the 22 Grade Rs were the first to rush into their new classroom with whoops and shouts of excitement!

The incredible spread of food prepared by the Sun GrandWest team was appreciated by all.
