A morning full of laughter and movement

There is something magical about a morning filled with laughter and colour. Children ran across Sunrise Educare’s playground in Vrygrond, chasing soap bubbles and clutching crayons as their imaginations came alive. The visit also marked the official handover of a cheque for R1.2 million, raised through PNA Funky Socks Day 2025, and one of 50 educational resource packs being delivered to ECD centres through the campaign. It was a vivid reminder of how every sticker sold and every pair of funky socks worn is translated into learning opportunities and moments of joy for children.

What Funky Socks Day is all about

For those hearing about Funky Socks Day for the first time, it is more than a day to wear bright, mismatched socks. It is a celebration of creativity and giving back. Every sticker purchased from a PNA store helps support charities such as Breadline Africa, which provides pre-school stationery, educational packs and learning tools to children in under-resourced ECDs. For the fourth year running, Breadline Africa is proud to be a beneficiary, and this year’s handover was a particularly memorable moment.

The bigger picture of impact

This campaign reaches far beyond one pre-school or classroom. In 2025, Funky Socks Day raised an incredible R2 million for children across South Africa and Namibia, supporting four vital organisations: Breadline Africa, CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, Rally to Read and Matla a Bana. Each sticker sold and every pair of funky socks worn contributed to this collective impact.

Fun and learning hand in hand

The children greeted the visitors with enthusiasm and curiosity, running across the grass, chasing bubbles and delighting in a morning of play. Partners from PNA, ambassadors and social media influencers, and the Breadline Africa team joined in the fun, capturing the moments and celebrating the children’s energy and excitement.

Behind the fun, there is a deeper story. For many children, access to basic stationery can mean the difference between learning confidently or falling behind. A pencil case, a notebook, coloured pencils or markers may seem small, but these tools help a child feel prepared, included and ready to explore their world. Through this campaign, everyday items become building blocks for confidence, creativity, hope and opportunity.

Gratitude and looking ahead

Breadline Africa is  proud to have been selected as a beneficiary for the fourth year. Each sticker sold and pair of funky socks worn made moments like this possible. It is a reminder that giving back can be joyful, colourful and contagious – spreading laughter, learning, hope and possibility.

To everyone who bought a sticker, to our partners at PNA, to our inspiring ambassadors and social media influencers, and to the Breadline Africa team, thank you for helping turn a simple idea into meaningful support for early learning. Together, we are doing more than filling pencil cases – we are colouring lives, one funky step at a time.

Building on this momentum, there will be more ECDs to visit, more handovers to celebrate and more mornings filled with learning and possibility. Funky Socks Day 2026 is already on the horizon, offering another opportunity to support children in under-resourced communities, one colourful step at a time.
