Transforming Early Childhood Development in Cape Town

In the heart of Gugulethu, Cape Town, a beacon of hope and sustainability has emerged. The Masonwabe Educare Centre & Aftercare (Masonwabe), which serves 76 children under the age of six, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Hyve Group, Violence Prevention Through Urban Upgrading (VPUU), Ladles of Love and Breadline Africa, this centre now provides a safe and secure learning environment, overcoming significant challenges and showcasing the power of partnership in early childhood development (ECD) infrastructure.

Enhancing the community and environment

Beyond the construction, Hyve Group’s involvement extends to a full year of nutritional support for the centre, in partnership with Ladles of Love. This support moves Masonwabe closer to government registration, cementing its place in the community.

A lasting impact

The new Masonwabe exemplifies sustainability and community impact. It embodies the spirit of UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: climate action, promoting a circular economy, supporting green energy transitions, and reducing the carbon footprint.

“Working with strong partners like Breadline Africa and the Masonwabe team allows us to make lasting changes in early childhood development. This beautiful ECD facility is a beacon of hope in Gugulethu for generations to come.” Michael Krause, CEO of VPUU
