Impact achieved

• Funding received from Glencore International and an individual donor made it possible to provide new library facilities at Mogolane Primary School in Bushbuckridge, Mokokwane Primary School in Matibidi and Pitas Primary School in Leroro Village – impacting a total of 1,131children.

• Prior to the placement of the infrastructure, the children at these schools did not have access to a functional library with local language and age-appropriate books to help them reach their literacy milestones.

• The impact that these libraries will have on the learners and staff of the schools will be felt for years to come. The facilities are in rural areas where most parents are unemployed, and the majority of learners are living with grandparents who cannot afford to buy books.

• The new libraries will create an environment where the teachers can instil a love of reading in the children that will stay with them throughout their lives. Our literacy partner, RoomtoRead provided the books and will be supporting literacy interventions at these schools, ensuring that the children obtain the maximum benefit from the libraries.
