Impact achieved

•This project will improve the learning facilities for 70 children enrolled at Little Angels Educare Centre in Kraaifontein, Cape Town.

•Prior to the placement of the infrastructure, they were taught in unsafe infrastructure units / shacks made of wood and tin.  They lacked clean and hygienic toilet and kitchen facilities and a dedicated office was just a dream for the principal, Joyce Matroos.  The structures, most of which have now been demolished and replaced, prevented Little Angels Educare Centre from applying for registration and receiving a government subsidy.

•With the launch of the new classrooms, kitchen, toilet and office facility, the safety and learning environment has been hugely improved. Previously, the centre was not able to provide hot meals for the children and now benefits from a fitted kitchen with hygienic stainless steel units.

•To the delight of the children, GrandWest also sponsored a large outdoor jungle gym which will provide benefits such as coordination and balance and will build confidence through developmental play.

•The newly crowned Miss South Africa, Ndavi Nokeri, joined GrandWest and Breadline Africa at a handover ceremony https://www.iol.co.za/capeargus/news/miss-sa-ndavi-nokeri-visits-wallacedene-educare-which-received-donations-from-grandwest-2853ffc3-f912-4f7f-8638-17181c9f4b7a

Long-term, the impact of this infrastructural support is hugely important.  In order to qualify for registration as a pre-school (ECD) facility and to receive government funding, Little Angels Educare Centre needs to comply with infrastructure safety standards and other set out regulatory norms. Infrastructure always tends to be the largest stumbling block due to costs. The classrooms and toilet funded by GrandWest as well as the kitchen and office funded Gerard and Anne Roche and the Co. Wexford Garden & Flower Club, will help them on the pathway to registration and long-term sustainability.
