Breadline Africa, a non-profit organization committed to transforming children’s lives in under-resourced South African communities, inaugurated a new prefabricated classroom at Bakerville Primary School in Gouda, Western Cape, on Friday, March 15, 2024.

The project was made possible with the generous support of Breadline Africa’s individual donors, Blue Falcon Trading (owner of the Gouda Wind Energy Facility), Marine & Refrigeration Engineering (Pty) Ltd, Underwater Surveys (Pty) Ltd, and Daemon Solutions.

Bakerville Primary School is the only school in the small rural town and caters to the educational development of 689 children. As a no-fees school dependent on limited public funding, Bakerville Primary faced growing challenges due to limited learning space. Grade R classes were initially held in a section of the library, which quickly became inadequate as student numbers increased. More recently, only two classrooms were available for 111 Grade R learners.

Recognizing this pressing need, the school reached out to Breadline Africa through social media, leading to the provision of a spacious 60m2 prefabricated classroom, comfortably accommodating 30 learners, thereby improving the teacher-to-child ratio.

Equipped with educational resources, the new classroom offers a vibrant and stimulating learning environment tailored to early childhood education.

During the launch event, Principal Quinton James extended heartfelt appreciation to Breadline Africa’s donors for their generous support.

Representing Blue Falcon Trading were Leanne Stokeld, General Manager, and Johannes Thomas, the Community Liaison Officer, who thanked Breadline Africa for their support and wished the staff and learners continued success in their new learning environment.

On behalf of Breadline Africa, Johan Nel commended the school for its dedication to the learners and thanked all donors who generously contributed to this project.

The ceremony concluded with a delightful performance by the Grade R students before they eagerly stepped into their brand-new classroom.
