A critical infrastructure need in this Western Cape community

About the project:

Established in 2015, Woelwaters Crèche in Hermanus, Western Cape, serves as a vital early childhood development centre dedicated to fostering foundational skills in its 40 children aged between three and five years. The centre serves the surrounding community and is a critical resource, providing daily care for young children.

The need:

Despite significant structural limitations, Woelwaters Crèche remains committed to empowering its young learners every day. The creche currently operates in a building originally intended as a church, which has not been adequately maintained and has numerous structural issues, both internally and externally. There is no proper outdoor playground, depriving children of essential physical development opportunities.

The impact:

Additionally, critical facilities such as toilets, the kitchen and an office/sickbay are either inadequate or entirely lacking. Principal Montague highlights the urgent need for improved conditions: “The children deserve better.” To address these pressing concerns, Breadline Africa, in collaboration with Enlighten Trust, seeks funding to construct this essential infrastructure.
