Providing Safe Sanitation at MJA Daycare Centre
Established in 2017 by Nomonde Siqwengana, MJA Daycare Centre in Kouga, Eastern Cape, arose from an urgent community need for reliable childcare.
Witnessing the challenges faced by working parents who struggled to find childcare that aligned with their long working hours, Nomonde founded the centre to offer extended care from early morning until late afternoon.
The centre offers children a secure, nurturing and educational environment, significantly alleviating childcare concerns for local families.
MJA Daycare operates in an informal settlement where formal building approvals are currently unavailable. Despite this, local municipal authorities recognise the centre’s value and support necessary upgrades.
Currently, the centre lacks appropriate sanitation facilities, using unsafe pit toilets that compromise the health, safety and dignity of the children. In collaboration with The Centre for Early Childhood Development, Breadline Africa seeks funding of R35,000 to install two safe and hygienic toilets, one accessible for wheelchair users.
