In the heart of Grabouw, nestled against the majestic backdrop of the Western Cape, lies Agape Rooidakke Daycare Centre a beacon of hope for this community. Since opening its doors in 1994, this humble daycare has grown into a vital lifeline for working parents and their little ones. Agape Rooidakke was born out of necessity. Parents, toiling in the nearby orchards and vineyards, needed a place where their children could be safe and thrive while they earned a living. Over the years, it has become more than just a daycare, it’s a second home for 120 children aged between 4 and 6 years old. These children arrive each morning with wide eyes and boundless energy, ready to explore the world.
Agape Rooidakke Daycare Centre stands alone as this community’s sole registered Early Childhood Development (ECD) facility. Children who pass through its gates emerge better prepared for the challenges of mainstream schooling. Most parents are seasonal farm workers, and their hands may be calloused, but their hearts beat fiercely for their children. Parents contribute what they can with only 50% that manage to pay the modest monthly school fees of R150. The teachers at Agape Rooidakke are more than educators, they are armed with teaching diplomas, they nurture creativity, curiosity, and kindness. Starfish, a local nonprofit, provides crucial support by ensuring that every child has nutritious meals. In addition, they bring classroom educational resources and support teachers with online training.
Agape Rooidakke has a pressing issue with the Pre-Grade R classroom. These children currently occupy an old structure with asbestos roofing sheets which poses a danger to their health. They urgently need a safe, secure modern classroom and a sturdy fence to keep the little ones safe. Will you help us build a safer classroom for these young little learners.
