More toilets are urgently needed at this pre-school to ensure proper hygiene and health for the little ones

Location: Strand, Western Cape

About: This well-run school takes its name from the coastal township in which it is located – which is also the isiZulu word for the ocean (Lwandle).  Since opening its doors in 2010, word has spread and the pre-school now has 74 children, ranging in age from one to six. They currently use the premises of a local Baptist church, utilising the hall, along with a wooden structure, as classroom space.

Challenge:  The school currently has only two flushing toilets for all 74 children and staff, which is not nearly enough to meet health and safety standards for pre-schools. More toilets are urgently needed to ensure proper hygiene and health for the little ones.

The need: A toilet container will provide six additional toilets and hand basins – aligning the facilities with government requirements and ensuring that the children have access to hygienic and safe toilet facilities while at school.

Beneficiaries: 74 children aged between one and six years
