About the project:

Impilo Primary School is a no-fee school,  which was established in the year 1962 and is situated in the outskirts of Emalahleni, near Kriel Mine. This is an IsiZulu and English medium school and also serves the local farming community. The learners are drawn from a township known as Thubelihle and neighbouring farms. Most learners are impoverished families and face many socio-economic challenges.

The challenge:

Due to a space shortage, the school is forced to host a combined Grade 1 and 2 class, creating a heavy workload for the teacher. Additionally, the Grade R learners are accommodated in a shack, which is far from ideal.

The need:

The school urgently needs a classroom for the Grade R learners. They also require a proper library, offering a separate and dedicated space for the children to discover the joy of reading. The current library will be converted into a classroom for the Grade 2 learners.
