Nestled in the heart of Vredenburg just 130km north of Cape Town, Klein Pêreltjies Kleuterskool was started by Euphrecia Delport and has been a nurturing ground for young minds since its inception in 2017. This early childhood development (ECD) centre is more than just a school; it is a haven where children aged 2 to 6 years old receive the foundation they need to flourish. Despite its small size, the school accommodates 35 children with dedicated, qualified teachers who has managed to create a warm, stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and grow.

The school operates out of a modest two-roomed house with a single toilet. With the principal’s unwavering commitment, she prepares meals at her home and brings them to the school daily. This arrangement, while resourceful, is far from ideal and underscores the urgent need for a proper kitchen on-site. Parents are eager to enrol their children, knowing the positive impact the school has had in the community. The cramped conditions mean that there is limited space for play and learning activities, and the long waiting list is a testament to the demand for Klein Pêreltjies Kleuterskool’s services.
With a pressing need for additional classrooms, a kitchen, and more toilet facilities. The expansion of Klein Pêreltjies Kleuterskool would have a profound impact on the community. More classrooms mean more children can be enrolled, reducing their waiting list. A dedicated kitchen would ensure that all meals are prepared on-site. Additional toilets would improve hygiene and comfort for both the children and staff, creating a more conducive learning environment.
An additional classroom, a proper kitchen, improved toilet facilities, and an office with a sickbay is urgent needed.
