Breadline Africa was proud to partner with Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) to provide a kitchen for the children of St Michael’s Primary School in Khayelitsha, which was funded by the MacFarlane Family Foundation. A special ceremony to launch the new structure took place on 2 February 2022.

Director of Breadline Africa, Marion Wagner said: “This is the 128th kitchen that PSFA has handed over to a school in its 64 years of existence and Breadline Africa is honoured to continue to partner with the organisation to provide much-needed infrastructure.”

In addition to the kitchen, Breadline Africa also donated five classroom libraries to the foundation phase classes at the school and provided exciting toy boxes for the Grade R classrooms.

The libraries consist of age-appropriate books in local languages that are placed in the classrooms for the children to enjoy. This allows the children access to books throughout the day and offers a wonderful opportunity for the children to fall in love with reading and experience the joy that getting lost in a good book can bring.

PSFA Director, Petrina Pakoe cut the ceremonial ribbon at the entrance to the kitchen and handed over the keys to Benedicta Ngalwa, the principal of the school. The Bishop of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa Diocese of False Bay, Right Reverend Margaret Vertue and her fellow clergymen blessed the kitchen, which was a very special moment.

After the blessing, the school choir sang a selection of beautiful songs of celebration and gratitude.
St Michael’s Primary is a private school that is owned by the Anglican Church and it has been on PSFA’s feeding programme since May 2012. Thanks to this partnership, 350 children will continue to receive nutritious breakfasts and lunches daily.
