By providing Ilithalethu Educare with a large safe sandbag structure, they will be able to qualify for full ECD registration.

Location: Nkanini, Khayelitsha, Western Cape

About: Principal Constance Mbambo established this early childhood development centre in 2009 with only 10 children from her community. The centre has grown significantly and now has 30 children.

Challenge: Constance has only one vibracrete classroom which doubles up as a kitchen. The makeshift structures at the centre are unsafe. By providing Ilithalethu Educare with a large safe sandbag structure (subdivided into a classroom, toilet and office sections), they will be able to qualify for full ECD registration which will allow them access to sustainable grant funding. Constance will also be able to have separate classrooms for children in different age groups.

The need: A large sandbag structure, with classroom, kitchen and office space will allow for sufficient space for the children to thrive.

Beneficiaries: 30 children, from one to five
