Fundi Rainbow Educare Centre, established in 2020 by a dedicated paediatric nurse with a great passion for young children, has undergone a significant transformation. In January 2020, principal Fundiswa Vavi converted her home to launch the centre with just five children and one teacher. Due to the community’s demand for an English pre-school, enrollment soared, quickly surpassing the available space.
The handover of the new classroom was celebrated on 12 December 2023 with entertainment provided by a talented local dance group. Guests included the community Ward Councillor Xolani Diniso, who emphasised the two main elements of a successful early childhood development centre: – parents who entrust and support the pre-school, ensuring a thriving environment and the educators who not only teach but also dedicate their time with passion, instilling discipline and preparing children for Grade R with a solid foundation. He thanked Fundiswa and her husband for their contribution to early education along with the donors, who have invested in this community, who have helped to ensure the long-lasting impact of this structure for future generations.
Fundiswa expressed her gratitude to all who attended and to the many who contributed. She shared her personal journey and vision for the centre. Despite her vocation being in nursing, she recognised the need for a quality pre-school in her area and also aspires to integrate disabled children into mainstream education at the school, allowing them to learn alongside their peers.
A parent, Fazeka Mposi, thanked Fundiswa for bringing a school of such high esteem to the community, eliminating the need for parents to seek quality education outside the area.
Johan Nel, Breadline Africa Marketing Manager, wished Fundi Rainbow Educare Centre success and acknowledged the donors: Stephen Lalor, Louisa Edwards, Elizabeth Willan, Rev. Jenny Mole, Glenys O’Malley, and donations In Memory of David Sowden and Frances Mathieson, for making the new classroom possible.
Two children who attended the pre-school in the past, addressed the audience with confidence and spoke of their gratitude for the opportunity of attending Fundi Rainbow Educare Centre and shared how happy they were to see the new classroom launched.
The celebration concluded with the beneficiaries of the new classroom, children aged 2-3 years old, joyfully singing.
